Baby Teeth

When Do Baby Teeth Come In?

All of your baby’s teeth are actually present underneath their gums at birth, but typically start to erupt between six months and one year old. Although every child is different, most children have a full set of twenty primary teeth by the time they are three years old.

Do Baby Teeth Matter?

Yes! Baby teeth are VERY important to your child’s development. They assist them chew, speak and smile! They also hold the place for permanent/adult teeth for later on down the road. When a baby tooth is lost too early, permanent/adult teeth can drift and cause crowding.

We recommend as soon as your child starts to erupt their first teeth to bring them into our office for an exam. This allows for our hygienists and Dr. Otero to evaluate your child’s eruption pattern, while also getting your child used to our office and how much fun we have here! This also allows us to go over brushing and oral habits that can effect the positioning of teeth. At the end of the appointment, your child is shown our “treasure box” allowing them to pick out a treat for being so brave!
